This garden was suffering from lots of tall trees beyond their south boundary. Meaning it got very little sun in the middle of the day and suffered from leaf litter. The lawn was mossy and boggy; with no path to the summer house feet were getting wet. A large trampoline was dominating the space, but needed to be part of the new garden for a while.
The budget on this garden was limited, so we decided not to change the patio near the house, and concentrated on the lawn, borders and the area in front of the summer house, for evenings around a fire pit.
My first task was to create a defined shape for the lawn this will always make a garden look bigger. As the client likes curves I used 3 inter locking circles, two for the lawn and a third for the gravel area next to the summer house. The enlarged beds meant there was now room for some colourful shade loving plants amongst the exiting shrubs, which were tamed and shaped to allow space.
A stepping stone path allows you to get to the summer house dry footed, and a new well drained lawn area has proved to be free of bogginess and moss is kept at bay with good maintenance.
