Sometimes, despite all our best efforts, plants ca Sometimes, despite all our best efforts, plants can get frost damaged when the weather turns out to be colder than expected. However, do not automatically give up on a plant that has been frost damaged. Many plants can be surprisingly resilient and may well rejuvenate from dormant buds at or below soil level. This takes time so recovery may not be seen until early summer.

We all love to see birds in our garden. Winter is We all love to see birds in our garden. Winter is a tricky time of year for our feathered friends, espcially when there is snow and frost around. You can help by giving them a fresh water supply and some extra food. There are lots of bird feeders and bird food on the market for you to buy, but you can also make you own by soaking oats in leftover cooking fat and putting this out in the garden. The birds will love you for it, and you’ll be able to watch them enjoy their supper from indoors with a warm cup of tea!

An easy way to prevent your pond from icing over i An easy way to prevent your pond from icing over is to place a ball in the water. This will make the water move about a little from the movement ball, and stop it from freezing. Any ball should work, or otherwise you can try a plastic bottle (weighted slightly to stop it blowing away).

Make sure you switch on your water feature now and again, especially if it’s very frosty. As well as getting the water in the pond moving, it will stop the water feature from freezing up.

Tip 2: Stop your pond from freezing over. Put a ball in your pond to keep ice from forming, and regularly run your water feature.
