The borders of this rear garden were uninteresting and on one side lost under low growing conifers. Edges of the lawn were uneven and indistinct.

Our client wanted to replicate a similar style to their front garden in the back with clipped box hedges, and a contemporary twist with a variety of shaped topiary. They also wanted to create a natural looking screening that would add privacy and security for their dog. A request for purple and white colour scheme was made.

The solution, on the shady side of the garden the lower branches of the trees were removed and a new straight edge was cut to the lawn, the new bed was dug over and planted with an arrangement of shade loving plants, including moving the large Fatsia Japonicas from the sunnier beds, were they had restricted growth and too much sun. We used small box hedging along the borders to give a more formal appearance.

To block out the view of the neighbor’s garden we used wooden screening fixed to the existing chain link fence and trees.

The sunnier side of the garden was again bordered with small hedging, and planted with a variety of shaped topiary to create interest and fun in the entertaining area of the garden.

The borders were in filled with purple and white flowering bulbs and perennials adding interest for all seasons.
